I saw a recent micro torch head at a demo show. it was about the size of a large ink pen.
I wasn't interested then, had my hands full..

Any clue to the source? A small tig head with handle removed would be close..

(for welding very small items under a "camera magnifier")

Doing a search on the internet came up with about twelve thousand unrelated pages. MILLER? Lincoln? Weldcraft? I think Teco is the small torch 100 amp I had somewhere here..
What is under the "handle" is it a tube or a tee fitting for the gas into the head?

I have one around here someplace, but it's the angled head version. I'll see if I can root it out of its hiding place and take a picture, as well as come up with the numbers.

WP 9P is close.. but.. no cigar. A pencil torch, air cooled, it don't show it with hoses.. would a 1/8" hose feed it I wonder?

I've not scratched the surface yet.

Is this like yours? how do you adjust the tungsten length? it looks blind on the other end? How does it adapt to the twist lock plug with the gas feed on a Miller? More questions huh? sorry.. Not sure what I need yet thou.

try adding jewelry to your search terms, the extremely small ones are talked about for welding the exotic metals used in the making of the new wave jewelry.

As a last resort you could go run some searches on the Orchid archives. As it was in some post a while ago. the one discussed weren't cheap, and no names come to mind having a senior moment :D http://www.ganoksin.com/site-map.htm

Looks real close to what I saw.. now I wonder if I can hook it to my synchrowave 200? Probably not.

It is a impulse welder.. meaning.. it will have to be cpu controlled via capacitor discharge..

I'm afraid to look up a price there.. that stuff looks high dollar.

I'm thinking a impulse welder is a edm in reverse polarity thou.. I'll hook a cpu in.. or a computer.. I got a crappy laptop..

Edited:
(I looked.. that rig is $4500.. 10 tungstens are $45) Run away and look at the tig torches above.. a couple hundred dollars and they use normal tungstens.. They are 3/4" diameter and six inches long..

Dave, I'll sell you this one if you want it. It has every size collet and cup made for this torch. It is water cooled, but you may be able to use it as an air-cooled torch as well. You would have to check with the manufacturer. They show it as 80amps as air-cooled and 180amps water-cooled. I bought it when I was welding some .035" aluminum, but never used this torch. I have since sold that particular TIG welder, and now only have a scratch-start Miller Inverter for DC only.

CK Worldwide has a micro torch.

http://www.ckworldwide.com/micro_torch.htm

Very reasonably priced.

Pricing is not displayed for us "laymen" @ the CK site. How much is the cute little torch?

Shoot, I think cost was around $80. Now thats cost not retail price. But you can use that as leverage in getting the price down at a LWS.

I want to say retail was under $160.

I found a torch-head and cable here.. I had lost it for a few years.. Underneath some stuff.. the fittings are all gone off the head, tig lock, rings, nozzle, tungsten clamp..

It's smaller than the one on the synchrowave.. DO they screw onto the end of the HOSE?

My miller has a prioritized connector, twist lock with a hole in the middle for the gas feed.. Would it be better to convert it?

The connector in the machine is called a Flow-Thru Dinse connector. Series 50 on the Synchrowave.

If you plan on using it on the synchrowave then yes, it would be a good idea.

I weld aircraft tubing with my Maxstar 150, though not for aircraft application. Light tubes unde 1.5 inches for the most part. I have the lift arc version. Is there a better torch I could buy than the one that came with the machine? I would like a watercooled unit only because the leads are more flexible and the unit is lighter in the hand. Can anyone take a stab at all the stuff I would need, and what it would cost?

A small CK torch say, leads, hose cover, water cooler ( I hear there is a good ebay provider, or was). As cheap as possible, but no point if it isn't all good quality gear I only have to buy once.

One thing you can do to make using the torch that came with it much nicer is change the standard rubber power lead for a braided power lead. Just like the braided rubber water cooled torches they are super flexible.

These guys have them, the SuperFlex version:

http://www.tectorch.com/detail/PDF/air%20cooled%20power%20cable%20options.pdf

The torch head is good. I think a 17 series. Older ones were the Miller Diamondback and the newer ones are made by weldcraft.

As for going water cooled if you buy everything new you are pushing $1K. Chances are you could just use a #9 torch with the high flex lead and never have a problem. It would be lighter and more flexible. Thats what I used for a while.

Thanks, my head is a diamondback, your suggestions sound worth following up on.

Welding up some "bolts" in some miss-drilled holes in the frame we bought..

My tig torch I noticed when you hit the pedal.. it seems to blow out the side of the tig torch??

I have a gas lens.. reckon it is stopped up? How do you tell?

Side of the torch? In the handle or near the cup?

Check your flow. It may be too high. Or the white teflon seal ring is bad.

Picture of the torch would be helpful.
