I have a 10" Craftsman bench top drill press real similar to this one here....just without the lazer
But anyway..I haven't used it in about a year, and when I fired it up the other day, the motor is making a lot of racket, almost like something is loose. Used to run real quiet. Everything is tight but I noticed something odd.
On each side of the column there is a bar that attaches to a plate that the motor is bolted to. The bars are so you can adjust the tension on the belt. Each bar has a set screw. I checked tension on the belt, and with it running I loosened each of the set screws and pushed the motor back some. I tighten the set screw on the right side first, (looking from the front) and as soon as I started to tighten the other set screw, came that awful racket. It only happens when I tighten the left set screw. Any ideas? I noticed the motor is not isolated from the mount plate to dampen vibration and I am wondering if I put some rubber between the plates that it will lessen or stop the racket.
