I have a quick question. I bought a bunch of tooling at an auction about a year and a half ago. Most has already been put to use, and some of it horse traded away, but I have a question about the boring bar heads and shell mill holders in the picture bellow. The small boring bar heads are Armstrong brand, if memory serves, the big daddy is as well. The shell mill holders are not any kind of priority at this time, but I thought I would ask about them as well.
My question is, are the arbors supposed to be removable? I was under the impression that most were threaded. I tried on the smaller armstrong heads, and w/ reasonable force, I was not able to get them to budge at all. It appears there is a seam behind the head, but I didn't want to risk screwing anything up. So, are most removeable? Are the threads typically right or left hand? How about the shell mill arbors? I haven't even tried on those, but I may have need of them one day...
I only ask because my old manual mill is Gorton taper, and my new CNC B'port SII is NMTB30. Worse comes to wore, I could make an attempt at turning the boring bar arbors down to a straight shaft and using a weldon holder or a ER collet, but I prefer to get NMTB threaded arbors. Any thoughts? I am at work right now, but can get more detailed pictures later if needed.
Thanks,
Jason
