Hi Everyone,

Background.....
Lincoln 170
Air Cooled
Hobby use
AL-Steel-SS-Ti....I do it all.
Used once a month.

I need a TIG torch with a longer cable for an upcomming project. Right now I have a 9 series torch with the 12' cable (useless).

So I see the longest ones sold commonly are the 25'ers. I like the idea of the higher amp torches, but is it just overkill and a waste of money for this setup (since I don't have that power anyway, and just a hobbyist)? Would also be better to stay with the same series so I can use the collection of collets, cups...ect, that I have gathered?

Do these come prewired, or do I need to buy the connector and pins?

Thanks!
Jim

Jim...you should have no problem tracking down a torch that will plug in to your machine. Macona will know for sure.
I wouldn't want to be without a 25ft torch. I just ordered a torch from CK and it's a 25 the same as my Lincoln torch.
I almost bought a 50 footer but didn't feel like dealing with the constant tangling. I have so many cords/cables in my shop as it is.
Just about always have at least two welders on the go...sometimes 3 and often the plasma cutter to boot.
I know I'll regret not getting the 50ft but the old 25 did pretty good.
BTW...my new CK torch...is supposed to use all the same consumables as my old torch.

25 ft is pretty good since your machine is small and reasonably portable. You can go to a heavier torch and gain on the duty cycle (how much time you can weld continuously) if the duty cycle on your machine is high enough, but if you have an aluminum wound Lincoln, be careful about exceeding the duty cycle!

I know that brand names like Weld Tech are the quality ones.

Wondering if there are any issues with getting a "generic" torch? Seem to be about 1/2 the price.

Thanks

Pretty much all the air cooled torches are the same no matter who makes them. I would get a 25' one. 50' is just too ling, you can get extensions if you want.

I think your torch connects with a dinse type connector. You can slide the rubber back on that one and unscrew it from the power lead and screw it on the new power lead.
