There are two Colchester Masters here in Williams Lake that I can't lay my hands on. They were salvaged by the shop teacher, a friend of mine, when the high school shop burnt down a few years ago. They were written off by the insurance company but only have minor mechanical damage and didn't appear to have been fried in the fire, unlike the other three. Because they were written off they can't be sold or they would see a capital cost recapture. According to tax law they should be destroyed but the shop teacher can't bring himself to do that so they are sitting outside tarped up waiting for seven years to go by when the tax record can be destroyed. The good thing is that they won't rust noticably in our climate.

The bad thing is that I was going to help out in the school shop when I retired. However, the insurance companies have changed the rules and it is now prohibited for anybody not a student or direct trained employee of the school district to even touch the shop equipment. Sigh.

What really ticks me off about that is during the 9 years that I ran my computer store I provided on the job training for over a dozen high school students in my store as part of the workplace experience requirement they need to graduate.

The least they could do is let me help teach their students in the shop.

I am only twenty miles from that South Bend lathe. If I can help anyone out please let me know. There is another one just down the street from that one that I am going to purchase so I am not interested in this one. If you need someone with a strong back and a weak mind to help load it or whatever I'll do what I can to help.

Anyone know of a good Colchester in the Texas area that's for sale? I think I would prefer the 13 x 40, but will definitely consider others :)

I am not even going to post the classifieds in CT. It would break my heart...
