Hello All,

I am a Quality Engineer for my pesky day job, and need to do a lot of different conversions during the day. Inch to mm, pounds to kilograms, Brinell hardness to Rockwell scales, etc.

I use two conversion programs that I love, and thought that my cadre of fellow hobby machinists could benefit from them as well.

CONVERT is a great program for most conversion needs, and UCONEER is for the "heavy duty" jobs. Both can be downloaded free, so if you feel like it, try them out.

CONVERT - www.joshmadison.com/software
and UCONEER - www.katmarsoftware.com/uconeer.htm

Happy computing!

UCONEER (www.katmarsoftware.com/uconeer.htm)

Made 'em clickable. I'm playing with them now, I'll report back shortly. :D

Hello again. :D

CONVERT looks like the more useful of the two for what I do here.

Thanks Don!

Thought I would add to the list of useful converters. "Unit" I've used for years. Opens in a DOS window and is windows friendly. "Units Converter" is another one, helpful at times too. Enjoy ;)

I've found that the most convenient converter is Google.

Just search for things like this:

5 kilometers in fathoms

1/64 inches in cm

66 gallons in cubic cubits

5 dollars / 1 year

123 CAD in USD

Or, if you really feel like having fun:

5 light years * 2 cups / 1 kilohertz

Dare I ask? :D

((5 light years) * (2 US cups)) / (1 kilohertz) = 2.23824973 1010 m4 s

I couldn't resist...

I use the Google calculator all the time. There aren't many units it doesn't know about.

one mile in hands = 15840

1 hogshead = 6.76751483 US bushels

1 rundlet = 1.66666667 firkins
