Well I don't know just what it is but we certainly seem to be going off the rails with slanging matches and OT posts.

I have been castigated, Alistair and Norman have been called out to put the boxing gloves on and Rigger also got hauled over the coals for some general remarks he made.

We had had the Hijack post thread, the Norman thread, the "Just what this forum doesn't need" post.
Add to this the odd snipe at teenage machinist and you can see it all gets excited.

Well help is at hand.

I have created an account using a proxy server and an anonymous persona called Sock Puppet who wishes to remain anonymous :D

Now when you want to vent off you can call Sock Puppet all the names you like and have no fear you are actually upsetting anyone, so the PC and Greenies amongst us can't moan about it.

I'll drop Sock Puppet an email and ask him to participate if he has the time.

Watch this space.....................

PS Sock Puppet can sometimes give as good as he gets so be careful.

HEY, I know "sock puppet"

He, in the middle of the night, on a date with a fair wench saved me from paying 18 years of child support... He was made of latex.. a funny thing.

Ah, give it a chance.

Maybe people can give an opinion at all, instead off at a person.

I have read some related topics in the past few days, I can feel that some people are disillusioned, ashamed, threatened. That's a waste.

I think that people take this all a little too serious, misreading the lines and reading between the lines.

In my welcome post somebody was sure I was from the Irish secret police, I laughed about it. I know for sure I'm not, but on the other side I am the only one. That's the way it goes.

So Suck Puppet, yes I am talking to you, take care that all people find their place here again. Life is too short, time too precious, for all these virtual misunderstandings.

It's an internet forum, I come here to exchange ideas and opinions.

Over the years there are forums I have stopped going to because I didn't like the general attitude... forums by their nature attract for the most part like-thinking/like-minded individuals.

I've also over the years gotten tossed/banned from a couple of forums for various reasons. One forum in particular I keep sneaking back to so I can rattle cages.

In this regard forums like this are a bit like pubs/bars. You'll fit in/have a good time at some but not others.

One great thing about online discussion that I have discovered is I can get opinions across a world-wide perspective. Last few years I've had a tough time in the employment market for some reason, and thanks to forums like this I have been able to dissect those reasons... make changes and move forward.

Disagreements on technical forums like this can get ugly real quick because sometimes people forget they are responding to another person.

This comic illustrates exactly what I mean. People tend to be assholes online because they get thinking they are being assholes to just words, not another person.

When i was a Kid couldnt afford a sock Puppet so just wrapped it up with a couple feet of Saran Wrap. You could find it in the garbage cans everywhere. Worked really good. Just a low buck tip. Madman

I'm sorry, this has gone too far on topic, so I'm going to hijack it.

In order to counter the Depths of winter and despair, you need something to put a little smile on your face, so say goodbye to December and hello to January :D

Peter,
I am wondering if these pictures have a deep physiological meaning for you ?
Is it the chains that excite you, the leather or just the acres of tanned bare skin ?
Or could it be deeper in that there are two members of the opposite sex present.
I feel we need to get a better understanding.

It could even be you are turned on by a red Ford Fiesta ?

There's something quite upsetting about December, they're much too scrawny around the middle to support the rest so not that sorry to say goodbye them. Is it the same models in January? they look better with some scraps of clothing.

Well you either have a Toolroom with a friendly visiting sales rep who doesn't mind leaving an extra copy, or you ring up Mitutoyo UK and ask for one to be sent out (free), or you wait for March and the big machine tool exhibition in Birmngham, where clones of the calendar girls are on the Mitutoyo stand handing multiple copies out left, right, and centre.

I've got lots of Mitutoyo mics/calipers/gauges etc, some bought, some inherited, and some gifted, but gathered over 20 years or more, so I'm a very irregular customer.

...
Ignore the bs.. get on with it. God bless you all, we got another day here on this planet, make the most of it.

I got a lovely dog, a lovely purple motorsickle, a nice shop in a tin building with no heat.. and a computer that catches viruses daily. Be happy, be nice to others..

Words of wisdom, indeed, and I mean that in all sincerity.
I only post occasionally here, my time to do so comes and goes pretty sporadically. But I can't help but frequent this place to read, as the cleverness of this crowd never ceases to amaze me.

I guess that I am as opinionated as anyone on any number of subjects, I do try to avoid the sort of debates that sometimes get rolling on the online places that I frequent. Whenever I feel the urge to get embroiled in some such thing welling up, I just refer to this:

Thanks for stepping up to the plate, Sock Puppet. Good luck, I suspect you will need it.

AWW LZ... I found after being stuffed away a magazine with a old girlfriend in it bared to the world.

My wife just rolled her eyes.. Silly man she was thinking.. you are living in the past with paper.. How much money did you say the skinny girl cost you? Hee hee hee.. Suddenly she ain't so cute.. anymore..

Come to think of it, where did that old magazine go?? (see you bide your time, then sneak like a ninja and do your evil deed)

I'm not near a PW as I could be..

Sock puppet? from a time when Cofer's did not have a television.. used a old piano stool as the base for the puppet show.. we sewed eyes on as buttons, a lil red darning thread as lips on the sock.. Yes.. hillbillies are easily amused.. yee haw.. ride that goat.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7cZOVPl0MbQ

Tell Norm if he don't straighten up and get on with the bothways apologies to his kith and kin he'll be asked to ride a goat.. Not that it is my place to suggest such a thing.

I've got a bunch of Mitutoyo measuring gear in my shop, but I've tried, unsuccessfully, for the past three years to get them to send a calendar to the 'States. We're too politically correct for tool porn :(

I just sent an email to the UK Ebay seller, asking if he'll Royal Airmail it to the US...

Add to this the odd snipe at teenage machinist
.

Im hijacking the thread back to the original post (I hope the world does not implode)

SJ I think the odd "snipe" may have come from me -- I was a bit harsh at Teenage machinist and to him I say im sorry - winter is starting to get to me + I just tried giving up coffee and cant believe how powerful the reaction -- the massive headache I half expected but the depression today kinda sucked - I generally dont get neither. I havnt ridden my bike in months and this is one of the biggies too.

Edit; I was wrong, it wasnt teenage mach. -- it was someone else - but since they havent complained I think I'll keep my yap shut.

This forum reminds me of the two old guys who are always fighting in the movie Grumpy Old Men. :)

You might just be lucky and get a couple of "Strap-on" girls who may well snap/strap? you up.

Dear Optics Curmudgeon.
Put the wife in the pickup, jump start the sedan and get the dog to drive.
Don't let it see the calendar .

When someone tells you there is always someone worse off than yourself try to refrain from verbal argument and just knee them in the balls.
