I have a 1/2 hp ajax motor on my loan 820. The motor is reversible according to the plate, but the drum switch is not wired to do this. The motor has 6 leads 3 of which are tied to each leg of the 110 v source. Is this a split phase arrangement, capacitor start ? The motor can be reversed by switching two wires at the motor, is there a way to wire it do that the drum switch can reverse the motor?

Bob,

What you have is probably a capacitor start motor. Does it have a capacitor? Anyway as for your main question.... Yes you can wire the drum switch for reversing. What you have to do is wire the two leads that need to be reversed to reverse the motor to the drum switch in such a way that when you turm the switch opposite ways the two leads reverse. I hope this makes sence.

Here's the wiring diagram for the capacitor-start motor on my Jet 1024.
