I have this VDFlathe it is a V 1 Boeringer, quite old but in good
nick. However I do not understand the purpose of the gear/s with the
numbers on it.
The lathe can cut Metric, Imperial and Modular threads it has a 8tpi
leadscrew. Here is a link to a photo of the gear/s

Can anyone help?

Thanks

That's pretty odd. There's another gear on the same shaft as the numbered gear, but the teeth seem to have a different pitch.

Can you zoom in on the gear in question in a new picture please?

I think it is some sort of dividing head. The planetary gears give you some ratio.

A better pic would help. I blew it up and it is very intriguing. Can you also post some pictures of the total mechanism? I think there will be something else that is "odd" that will support the "dividing head" theory and help in counting revs.Lathes.co.up say that vfd is a marketing name. Is there a model number or other info?

Or it might be something else. My success ration on these guesssing games is 8%. :D :D

They have the specs and an old catalogue.
