Looking at Kurt vises I see that a D675 is six inches wide and opens to 7.5 inches and a D688 is 6 inches wide and opens to 8.8 inches. Is this the only difference in these vises?
Also how do these compare with a model D60. I didn't see the D60 listed on Kurts web page, is it discontinued? Is the D60 as good as the new models?
Thanks,
Bill

The D60 opens only 6".
There may be some difference in the footprint also.

Difference in footprint, weight, and jaw opening. The D60 may not open up a full 6" (maybe something like 5-7/8"). A friend of mine bought the D688 and wishes he had just gone with the D675 (due to weight and overhang).

Ive also noticed a couple ads that didnt show the D-60 ... maybe they did phase it out.

Well my little knowledge about it is that Ive got a 675 and I think Id fight a bear to hang onto it!! It is soooo sweet!

As I recall Lane talking about them, the 60 & 675 are very similar, but the 688 had some design differences that he wasnt too impressed with .... Maybe when he gets home from work he can elaborate on that.

Do any of the suppliers over there have regular good deals on the 675. How much can you get a new one for if you wait?

Is the 4" always more than the 6"

About the lowest I've seen lately is around $419, free shipping would be a real bonus. Last time I bought one is was soemthing like $379 and then I paid around $79 for shipping. With something this heavy, it always has to be the total price shipped to you. I've never seen a lower price for the D40, always assumed it was due to much lower volume/demand.

If you check the specs on the D675 and the D688 you will see there is very little difference in the size and weight between the two. I went with the D688 for my Tormach mill as I liked the extra opening and they were on sale locally for less than the mail ordered D675. I was so tired of always needing a little more vise opening and the D688 appears to have solved my problem. It's a great vise....

I use them all . the D60 is still made but most people go for the D675 are the D688 . I prefer the D675 The d 688 will cock to one side if you are trying to hold a short piece with out putting something on the other side. The 688 is the longest and the 675 a little shorter. the difference being the slide block that works the rear jaw its where the hook is located on the block.
