I finally bit the bullet and bought a DRO for the mill..It is an Easson brand which seems to be a middle of the road variety..Un fortunately my supplier sent me a 700mm long X scale when I needed a 750mm long one, he will swap it over no cost next week

Tried to find info on how to install but there seems to be a lack of this sort of information on the web, so with instruction manual in hand which gave me a few pointers and had the necessary tolerances I installed the Y with little hassle but the Z caused a bit of head scratching and a lot of winding up and down to get the scale straight... I have a cover to put over the Z axis and will do that next... Not sure if I installed the Z axis how most people would but it seems to work and is repeatable...

First the reader

Now the Y axis

And the Z axis

it looks like you got it figured out. looks good to me.

did you get any kind of metal covers to keep the crap off them ?

you may want to consider making covers if you didn;t.

just light gage sheetmetal.

I have done a couple of Z axis the same way Ringer. From memory I think I left the covers off on Z only.

Nice job but I think mounting instructions for every machine application would be to much. The installer has to devise his own way using the guide lines for setting up the scales and readers correctly. Getting the scales and readers set right is the real hassle.

Hummmm that display looks almost exactly like the Grizzly DRO.
Nice job btw.
