When I search for an item, say, endmill, the first two pages of responses are junk links. For example, one of them today takes the description from one website and sends me to realtor.com.

Is this a virus or something, or do all the search engines have issues right now?

It sounds like you've gotten a malware/spyware/redirector installed on your machine.

You can download Spybot Search & Destroy (freeware) here:

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

That should get rid of most spyware.

In the meantime you can probably avoid the issue by using http://boogle.com instead. If your are searching for products then use http://froogle.com

I'd be surprised if Boggle will work Evan -- the spambots usually do a URL redirection, so no matter what browser or proxy you use, the spam bot will still intercept and redirect the URL.

A lot of google returns are other "search engines" that are actually spam front ends with Google as a back end. They manipulate the Google database to get high placement and when you get a link from Google it frequently is one of these bogus engines. They're very annoying because they don't provide your information - they pass over links, probably gotten from Google, along with a page of useless spam. More and more I think the people who run Google are idiots. Big money idiots, but still idiots.

Same thing happens here. I get by that by clicking on "Advanced search" on the google search box.

Restart into safe mode and then delete wdmaud.sys

It's bogus and deleting it should fix the problem.
