Sometime back I'd mentioned a light duty vise being held with a bowling ball mount. If any of you have to do finesse work with small files this is a great way to achieve any position you need.

You would of course mount your small vise to the bowling ball anyway you could. Instead of using the popular small rubber tire trick, you can also drill a hole in your workbench smaller then the balls diameter. If you want a stiff action, drop a sheet of leather over the hole before dropping the bowling ball on it. If you really need it to stick firm then sprinkle
it with powedered rosin which is easily available from ______________ by the small can! It's a low tech answer for holding delicate work.

Great idea, now I know what to do with the bowling ball somebody dropped over the fence.
As a low cost source of rosin. Don't know why in your post it is a line. But I get it by the pound cheap from http://www.usrodeosupply.com/Shop-Rodeo-Gear/ALL-Bull-Riding-Gear Amber or yellow rosin is the same as white rosin. and when ground up all rosin is white in color or off white.
It is a lot cheaper than stopping by the music store. Some of the tractor supply/farm stores have it too.

Well with the sun shinning and spring in the air for today 64'F
and 20% off coupon in hand I headed to horrible fright for their vac base vise it has a post and the ball comes of with an allen wrench. It is a pretty good light duty vise same one as sold by any number of vendors that charge more!

Had a 13 " balloon off road wheel but will pick up one of the $4.99 ones next time I get back
it doesn't seem to have the loosen issue as the ball has been outside for two years.
I think a newer one of the acrylic type and not the ebonite style rubber one would be cleaner and work better.

Just for anybody's interest the knife is one of those throwing knives from the want ads in the back of the magazines Pop Mech etc.! It is a Soling from Japan and a stamped knife 10" 1 3/16" at its widest.

Any one needing a Ball vise, contact my wife! She has been cranking on that thing for 30 years. Would love to get rid of it! Fred
