I am looking for a certain hex head bolt and can not locate one. It's dimensions are 1/2 - 20tpi X 1.25" left hand thread grade 8. In the meantime I made one last night but will need more in the future. I tried McMaster and the other usual suspects and can not find anything. Any ideas?

Do you need grade 8 bolts to meet specs on a print? If so I would be real careful about using anything other than a rolled thread bolt made from materials with traceable certs. If its your product they you know what will fly and what will not. Can you get a print change to 1/2x13?

1/2" x 20Tpi is constant pitch series over here. Threaded milling cutter shafts are 20TPI.

Did you try Bolt depot?

And LH thread is a nice EARNER :D If you buy longer Grade 8's and machine the thread on to them after cutting off the RH thread ends.

I tried bolt depot with no luck. Was kind of surprised as I picked through the options on McMaster that they did not have them. This is for a repair on an existing piece of equipment that will get new bolts each time it is dissassemled due to the nature of the application.

As far as making them it isn't bad on a CNC. It is just my time is better spent doing something billable versus making bolts to repair my own equipment.
