View Full Version : Motor/switch issues once again

I'm in the proccess of replacing a motor in my Sheldon. I have the new motor all wired up and the running in both directions, but the vibration is terrible. The pitch of the vibration is different depending on the direction. One way it's more of a thumping (like the shaft is way out of balance) in the other direction it's a very high pitch. Also it takes a moment for the motor to spin up, without any load (no pulley attached).

The motor is a new Dayton 3/4hp running off of 220, the switch is a Furnas drum rated to 2 hp. There is a magnetic on/off between the switch and the power.

Anyone have any idea what the trouble may be?

I suppose that drawings/pictures might help more.

If there is a wiring issue, I suppose that might cause such a problem, but it might have to be severe, like not connecting two poles of a 1725 rpm 120/240 motor.
