View Full Version : Air Motor piston ring material?

I have a porta power pump, an air over hydraulic pump. Housing piston reciprocates in has worn and piston ring won't seal properly. Is there any way to cast a new ring in polyurethane or other suitable material as replacement parts are not available. Used pumps are going for around $100+ shipping and I hate to throw out a good pump.

I assume that you've already taken this apart. What is the original material, and what size is it? Perhaps a standard poly hydraulic cylinder seal would work.

Its probally made of the same material as the oil-less air compressor piston rings.

Thank you for the ideas, Mark

What about machining one out of UHMW nylon or something similar?
Or maybe something even denser...

Lots of those 'soft but strong' plastics will machine pretty precisely...

Was going to use some Rulon I had laying around until I realized that it has to stretch over the piston.:)
