I have a lincoln sp 170 in my garage. As I weld with it the nylon nut that holds the wire to machine is always tightening up on me. Has any one else had this problem? If so how did you fix it. Thanks

I took a locknut with a nylon insert (Nyloc?) and turned it down short so that there were only a couple of hreads below the nylon-filled head portion. Then I just tightened the nut until the roll would move freely and not bind. The nylon lock portion keeps it from moving. The threaded shaft is too short. It should have been made about a half inch longer so that a regular locknut could have been used.

It worked for me on my SP 175 PLus.

There should be a little white spacer between the nut and the spool holder. It is keyed so it does not turn. This has probably gone AWOL. Or the key has stripped out of it.

Cheap part, not more than a couple bucks at a weld supply shop.
