So I'm thinking TrueEdge/Hangsterfers way oil - comparable in viscosity to Vactra #2 for the ways and a non-detergent 30 weight for the spindle?

Sound good, or do I need something else? (I don't have a manual and I can't find any lubrication rec. plates)

I've been using farm store ISO-68 hydraulic oil in the head & column. Vactra2 for the ways.

You may find this write-up on adjusting the spindle bearing interesting ... or not.:)

I have the manuals somewhere I can't find them right now. I can copy them.

Found the manual. It calls for SAE 30, Viscosity 300-325 Saybolt aat 100 degrees for knee, cloumn and head.

In this chart, that comes close to ISO 68

The manual also emphatically calls for draining the oil, pouring in kerosene, and idling the mill for five minutes, and refilling every 4 months. I did that when I first got it and haven't done it since at the rate I use it. It obviously hadn't been changed in a long time by the sludge I found.

It doesn't call out a specific way oil.

Awsome! Thanks a bunch for that info. I'll be sure to get several gallons of kerosene, because I'm guessing this has not been cleaned in a long, long time ... :D
