View Full Version : DIY electroless nickle plating?

I am thinking about copper platting some bits and pieces of my amplifier case I am building. From what I understand, aluminum has to be zinc plated, then nickle plated before copper plating. I think I have the zinc and copper part figured out, but can you educate me on nickle?

Getting pure nickle electrodes may pose a bit of a problem, and I have read that electoless nickle is a good substitute. I found Caswell Plating offers all the needed stuff, however, they want a small fortune for it. The process has been around for a long time, do any of you know of a home grown, DIY method? According to Caswell, it would litterally be several hundred dollars to get the supplied to do a bath the size I would need for these parts.

I would probably be better off taking it to a commercial platter, but, I can't locate anyone in a 50 mile radius that does it. Can you offer me any advice?

I never had any luck with Caswell's nickle plating kit
