My monitor gets direct sunlight for about half an hour in the mornings when there are no clouds. I heard somewhere about possible harm, but don't know for sure. I try to remember to park a sheet of cardboard in front of the screen for that period, but...

Confirm? Deny?

It depends on how hot it becomes. Excess heat will damage it. Bright light alone isn't a problem but direct sun is high wattage light. One sq foot of sunlight is around 100 watts of energy.

Every color LCD screen I have ever seen that is permanently mounted outside has the red faded out of it.
