    Help in Los Angeles

Hi there, I'm building a small machine that needs a worm drive and gears (metal), the lenght of gear needed is approx 18" and about the size of a dime is there anywhere I can go in the Los Angeles area to find these gears, I'm also looking for some help! As not a pro myselft, maybe a retired gent (Glendale Area) many thanks.

        Lukys Hardware on Burbank Boulevard

No better than Apex, but right around the corner from Glendale.

Do you mean the worm will be 18" long and the diameter of a dime? If so, what is the size of the driven gear?
            It's only ink and paper

Have you tried bearings & drives in El Monte, pretty good staff there.

I do not know any thing about Los Angeles. But a place that big would have any thing you could want. Get out the yellow pages and look under Bearing suppliers . And Industrial suppliers for power and transmission equipment. such as Motion Industries ,Applied Technology and such. I live in a small town but we have both bearing supply houses plus a local one that has any thing you could ever want in that line of product. L.A probably has a hundred are more of such places.

The worm drive is approx 18" and the diameter is a nickle not a dime and any gear that will fit! I need the gears to revolve 3 rpm approx and I'll fit a reduced gear motor (150 rpm approx) directly to the worm.

There's also C&H Sales in Duarte (they moved from Pasadena). Pricey but lots of stuff.

Could you use 2 shorter worms mounted on a shaft? It would likely be much cheaper, easier to find, and you'll likely have to use a shaft anyway.
