2. they are talking about installing average speed cams nationwide in every town on every road ....so you'll be so busy watching your speedo ..that you will end up in an accident.

At least you guys don't have to travel through a Border Patrol checkpoint everyday on your way to work where there are at least 8 'agents' at the back road checkpoint and 14 at the highway checkpoint a good 50 miles from the border. However a single agent with nobody around gets shot in the desert with nobody around, apparently he was one of the few Border Patrol agents that is actually assigned to the border.
We now have facial recognition cameras heading both north and south and they are installing full vehicle X-ray machines at the checkpoint on the highway, again, this is a full 50 miles from the border, with two large urban areas in between the checkpoints and the border.
Its a wonderful feeling that big brother needs to know what I'm doing, where I'm going, what I do for a living, where I live, whats in my backpack, just for me to go to work. I won't tell them s**t. I'll toss them the fact that I'm a US citizen since that gets you through quick most of the time. Its when the interrogation starts that I get pi$$ed.
Since I'm such a threat and go through there almost every day, they should know who I am, especially with their nice facial recognition arrays. They get really mad when you actually know your constitutional rights, they get really mad when you ask them "am I in the United States".
I've been asked "do you have a problem with authority?", answer was "only when its abused".
"Do you have a problem with the Border Patrol?"
"Not when you're on the Border"
After several minutes of refusing to answer questions I've been told
"I'm just doing my job"
"No sir, your job is 50 miles south of here".
I've been called a F*****n A**hole
I've been covered in spit from an out of control glorified mall security guard screaming at the top of his lungs at me because I wouldn't tell him where I was going.
Funny thing, I've also been told that I don't have to answer any questions, yet when I don't I catch a huge hissy fit.
Another funny thing is that if they thought I was such a threat, they would follow me, but no, none of the lazy BP monkey's can be bothered to leave the nice BBQ they have cooking at the checkpoint.
Remember this is 50 miles from the border inside the United States, on my way from my home in the United States, going to work inside of the United States.
I know "if you have nothing to hide..."
America is no better.
sorry for the rant.

I love the one "More CCTV means more security for you" Pure unadulterted bull s---.The only thing it means is security can watch from a safe distance while some one is raped, robbed and murdered. They*might* do something to the perp if they feel like it.
I personally feel much better with a 3" .38 in my front pocket, but that's just me.

Of course attitudes rapidly change when "your" burglar is caught because the CCTV at the bottom of the road got his car registration on tape. Or the terrorist who is convicted and jailed for twenty years because he’s taped humping 3 ton of fertiliser into a lock-up in "Yourtown".
Stop whingeing and also consider the benefits for one second.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
Liberty means responsibility. That is why most men dread it.
Patterning your life around other's opinions is nothing more than slavery.
Bobw53,
You are absolutely right to question them, if they are professional they will provide you with an intelligent response, if not then report them. When I was involved with this kind of work I always stated " Good morning, I am stopping

Well at least you seem to be able to get away with arguing with them.
if that situation arose here ...and i spoke to the police in that way ..
they would make every effort to get back at you ..by following you or your family for weeks, waiting for you/family to make a mistake whilst driving ..so that they could prosecute you .
Ive known and seen it happen

Oh,that happens here too. That is one of the things I am absolutely certain of,every culture and nation of people on Earth has it's outright a--holes.Another is that they most always end up working for government since government is the only employer that will hire them.I think it must be a law of nature.

Unfortunately, the government knows that many libs feel more secure when someone peaks down in their underwear looking for weapons. Not one 80 year old lady has yet been found to be a terrorist but yet they search them at the airports with all the zeal of a 25 year old raghead with a dazed look in his eyes. It's about making the populace "feel" protected. When the population gets used to it and no longer feels as protected the government will start strip searching our 8 year old kids and half the country will be okay with it because they will now feel "protected". We're talking bandaids here, sort of like gun control is just another bandaid.

Ummm - maybe. Have a guy on another board that's a brit. Has a nice US muscle car. It was vandalized on the street and it was all caught with the spy cameras. Good, eh? Sorta - took him hell to get the authorities to do much of anything and the swift hammer of justice told the vandals "shame on you, pay some restitution". I don't know that he's received any satisfaction yet.
Hatch produces some of the best chilies in the world. Shame to hear you have to put up with that crap. Pull a tow sack over their heads and tell 'em to stuff it. There is a lawyer out here that got into some trouble for posting billboards reminding people they did not have to submit to a vehicle search just because the officer asked politely. They stop a lot of drug traffic on I-20, usually it's because the hauler is an idiot. I've debated what I'd do - probably depends on where I need to be next. I'd have no problem saying "I understand your request but if you think you really have probably cause get a warrant" and be prepared to wait for the dog and the backup. In Texas, they do NOT have to have any special cause to stop you, but they do need a warrant or consent to search. Unless they can see contraband right through the window or you are under arrest for something, hopefully not just POP.
Border patrol has a rather limited budget from what I hear -you pay low you get what equates to midnight store stockers - except they are given a badge and a loaded weapon.

That's amusing when you consider that all the excess border security and airport security was instituted by Bush, as was illegal wiretapping, mass scanning of email, etc.
Bush was also the one who pushed the ridiculous (and ridiculously expensive) wall with Mexico.

Sorry to wander slightly OT but today the BO administration asked all those who support health care reform to report to the White House any false information that is heard on blogs, news forums, news response columns, etc. The office that requested it basically said that there was too much false information for them to handle alone !
