I picked up a Jet 3 ton arbor press Fri. at a garage sale for $25.00, the plate is missing does anybody sell them? Or can some one tell me how thick it should be so I could make one.

I only paid $100 for my famco 3-1/2T and it was made here. :)

Some dumbass sent it down the road with a bunch of old press brake dies because no one had ever adjusted the gibs and the ram was slightly loose. I picked it up from the outfit that handles their asset recovery (same people I bought my Nakamura from). 2 mins adjusting and she was good as new!

Mike,

nice catch.

I have a 1-ton-er and can pretty well instantly turn it into anything up to 20 tons - works well:

oldtiffie and mike: Nice rig!
Arbor presses have gibs? Hmm, makes sense. Did'nt notice any on the cheap princess auto arbor press but maybe I did'nt look hard enough, or maybe its just that cheap.

a arbor press or maybe even something a little more precise like a punch/die press is something iv wanted to make for awhile.. though I might just buy it.. kinda hard to decide.

Mike,
PM me with the approximate size of the plate it would take. I may have one you could use.

Make your own..... forget the original, you probably don't want it.

The original plates on many JET presses were CAST IRON, which may decide to break someday.

Mine did on my 1 ton, and when it did, it exploded. Most of it was in two pieces, but slivers flew across the room. Not good.

How much was the little boy? :D

My kids (about the same age) are the same way when I get a new toy. My Wife has the exact opposite reaction.

Great deal on the press and the little helper. I'm sure you can't put a price tag on that.

yeah I have a POS 12 ton hydraulic press that came with cast plates. I managed to snap them in half with a nice bang.
I have a 2 ton Palmgren thats seems to be decent.
I would say you did well for 25$

I nabbed a Famco #2 off Craigslist for $10. It's dirty, rusty, and missing the plate but I'm pleased with it. I thought I was pretty clever until I later found out that he had a nice pre-64 Model 94 that he sold for $100 that day. DOH!
