I have located a '29 model Silent chain drive large swing South Bend model 302-BB. That's 36" with 5' bed. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of these? Price is $900 asking with chucks, gears and some tooling. I will use it mainly for personnel gunsmithing work. Single phase variable speed motor (obviously later adddition). Any info or insight appreciated. I have looked on the lathes.co.uk and SB pages and have most of the basic facts. Thanks in advance

Are you sure it hase the RPM's you need? Most large lathes are low rpm. Sound like a bargain though - should be easier to make those 4 Bore elephant guns with! http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif

I have a 26" lathe with 35" in the gap.I only use it when the job requires it,because it is heavy to operate. Not to mention the 7 tons or so to move.If it is your only lathe get something smaller.
