Joy of Joys! Went to an auction yesterday, and became owner of a Monarch 12CKK lathe. Happiness!! Almost no wear on ways, steady rest, Taper attachment, great dark green color! Best of all, it's mine for high bid of $500! It makes me smile! It makes my wife Smile! If I had a tail, I'd be wagging it! Now I just have to figure out how to get it off the trailer....

Alright!!...another Monarch guy...congrats!
Sounds like an excellent deal.

I have a 1940 12CKK - currently partially dismantled for cleaning & repairs.

There's a Monarch lathe forum at practical machinist: http://www.practicalmachinist.com/
and, a yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Monarchlathe/

Good luck and be very careful unloading it!!!

Green? Uh-oh. Sorry to tell you this, man, but you got a rare model that was used only for cutting highly radioactive... yeah, that'll do it... ahem highly radioactive substances. It's probably badly contaminated, and I'll need to have you immediately trailer it to my shop for proper decontamination and disposal.

I'll trade you a really nice Unimat for your troubles.

Doc.

We are in a time under the Bush administration where there is no economic industrial incentive to operate any new business.

Buying up tooling and facilities could be a good strategy. If Bush wins re-election this would be a bad investment in my opinion.
Hey, Ask a repubilican and he will tell you how to fold your money to fit in his wallet.

We defiantly are in need of some pictures of this hunk of iron and steel. There is nothing better than leaving an auction with a large grin on your face, and a trailer of goodies in tow. We have 3 Monarchs at work. 2 are 10EE's and they are great. Have fun with it!

Greetings! Thanks for the kind words. I go to get it tomorrow- then I'll take some pictures of it overwelming the small shop.

Doc- the radioactivity is a valid concern- but it looked OK while sitting next to a bright blue/teal painted lathe! I wonder who the "artist" was that did that! The offer of the unimat is, er, tempting http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif

Quite a while ago I left a post asking how to chase down work. Several of you had excellent suggestions, which I very much appreciated. Putting those into practice has kept me gainfully employed in my little shop, and the future currently looks bright enough to make this Large investment! Thanks again!
