As a simple design to reproduce I have also been looking at the Stevens Tip-up or Model 41 pistol. Would love to see how they did the extractor and the catch to keep the barrel closed. I am assumiong that the cartridge head is completely recessed in the end or the barrel and the extractor is a rather simple cam operated afair like the extractors on my double barreled shotgun. What is not real obvious from any of the pictures I have seen is the latching mechanism. Is it somehow connected with the hammer? Like pulling the hammer back past full cock releases the barrel lock? Or push the trigger forward?

Thanks -

I'm not sure about the extractor, but a simple cam operated, or just a spring loaded extractor would work. The latch is a sliding bar that engages a notch on the barrel lug.

You can see it in these photos, http://www.gunsamerica.com/999271296/Guns/Pistols/Stevens-Pistols/2966_Stevens_Tip_UP_22_LR.htm. The flat bar on the right side of the action is operated by the button on the left. It slides East & West with a spring to retract it.
