Looking for the name of an australia motorcycle engineer who design, built and raced his own bikes.He pasted away young?, perhaps in the last 10-15 years ago?

I think you may be thinking of John Britten? But I'm pretty sure he was a Kiwi.

Could it be Burt Munroe? He raced ancient Indian motorcycles longer than most of us have been around.

Sounds like John Britten, he was a Kiwi.

Here's a documentary that was made of him in 5 episodes - watching it is a great way to spend an hour.

I really enjoyed that.
Seems like Kiwis and Newfoundlanders have a lot in common:
Miles from spares and broke down, so we learned to fix it ourselves.

I really enjoyed that also. looked up his death. Died at 45. What a shame.
