Dumb question of they day:

In the last few Enco mailer's, (page 29 of the current one) I see the Royal Chuck Stop Sets (http://www.use-enco.com/CGI/INSRIT?PARTPG=INLMKD&PMPXNO=26368304&PMAKA=SW240-2994) on sale, but in the add there is a D.O.T regulated symbol that has a airplane with the line through it...

WHY?

Because they have magnets in them to hold them to the chuck. You can't ship magnets by air.

Just guessing here, but would you use something like that for operations on disks, rings, bearing races, etc?

Thanks!

Anything that you need a hard stop for, esp. production work.
Have 50 pcs to face the ends on, put stock against stop, tighten chuck and make your cut.
All pcs will be the same length.

Brian, make your own. I made a few of these using different thicknesses of plate. they were faced off flat on the mill and magnets were glued into counterbores after this pic was taken.

Thanks Dockrat---I thought when I seen them that they would be relatively easy to make myself.---In fact--Why couldn't you make the stops out of aluminum with a reamed center hole--And have a set of mild steel "spigots" in varying thicknesses with a threaded shank that fits thru the reamed center hole and is held in place by a hex nut?---Brian

From the days of magnetic instrument navigation???? magnetic interference from magnets on board plays hvoc with compasses.

Now tell me what the issue is with my ipod, laptop, CD player, or other electronic device at various times during take off and landing....

That would work too but you would have to make them varying diameters also in order to have a wide flat backing for the wider stuff. In the following pics I am holding a 1/8 x 4" brass disk ready for polishing and have a 1/16 grip on it. It would be hard to get that into the chuck evenly without a good wide backing.

Crazy. No magnets on a plane-I don't get it either.

But anybody ever see a Li-Poly battery catch fire(accident or on purpose)? How many of those are in carry on luggage?

Perhap it's due to the fact that flying is not a natural function of human beings and the need to inform that some disater may be due to happen without having to compete with the cocophony that many find essential to rattle in the void between their ears from the latest piece of oriental wizzardry at ALL times???
