View Full Version : Need help with Jet Lathe

I recently picked up a Jet 1430 Lathe. I got a good deal on it since it was missing the whole top compound. Jet no longer has parts available for this model. I'm willing to make what I need, but I'd rather purchase whatever parts I can. I was hoping that since most of the import lathes were clones I might be able to buy parts for a Grizzly lathe and adapt it. What I need is some measurements from someone that has one. The top width of the dovetail is 2.288 and .49 tall. Anyone have the time to see if they have something close?

Is your lathe a 1430 or a 1340? I have a GHB1340A that is about two years old. If yours is a 1340 I will be happy to provide you with any measurements you need.

It is a 1430. I thought I mixed up the numbers when I started searching since most newer lathes are 13x40. If it's not too much trouble could you still get a couple of measurements. I'm thinking/hoping that there might not be much difference between the two.

this probably is of no help to you but I too measured my GHB1340A. The dovetail on top of the carriage measures 2.7180 wide by .4715 high. The dovetail that the compound rides in is 1.7885 wide and .3835 high.

No it's helpful. At least now, I now what not to buy. I'll have to check out the larger machines that Grizzly has. My sister lives near the Pa. store.
(5 hours away for me) Next time I get up to see her I'll check out the inventory.
