View Full Version : Help me find a linear ball bearing, please.

This is on a customer part that they want me to copy and make them a new one, the bronze bushing with the balls in it has a 5mm ID and freely floats inside those two pressed in bushings you see on the upper left, the pressed in bushings have an OD of 10mm. The inner ball bearings both ride on some 5mm hardened pins and I would say their total range on the supplied part is about 5mm, you'll be able to kind of see that in the second picture. I went to my local bearing supplier(Applied Industrial Technologies) and I stumped them as they haven't been able to find anything like this for me after a couple days of looking.
edit:Almost forgot, the total length of the bearing when assembled is 10mm
P.S. I know this a home shop site, but I like you guys better than that other site for "pro's". Thanks for any help

Those are generally found on die sets etc. They're bushing / guide posts. Check here at MSC (http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/GSDRVSM?PMTYPE=KEY&SISMNO=11957357&SIPCNO=0002009225&SIZZNO=46595796&SIS0NO=1271138&SISHNO=0&SISRC=GO&SISRCH=2&SILEVL=3&SILSEQ=2&SIT4NO=73443985) The Danly stuff is nice =)
Hrm, ok, seems MSC doesn't have anything that size, nor does Danly list anything << 18mm. I'll check the books at work tomorrow and see what I can find, will post tomorrow evening.
I don't much know arizona, so this my not be much good, but these guys are Danly distributors, so they may carry other brands or at least maybe be able to get you closer to your parts.

Sounds obvious I know, but its a "ball cage bush".
Used in just about all press tool die sets, but I've never seen one that small before, about 20mm dia is probably the smallest I've seen.
However, a quick google shows up that IKO bearings make a "Miniature stroke rotary bushing STS", and it turns out that you can get these over in your neck of the woods from Maryland Metrics.

Awsome photos, I love seeing parts iv never seen or even concived of existing before. Even better when smart people around here even know what it is and where they are often used :)
You can get them from MISUMI (they even go down to a 3mm ID)
Follow this link:
$9 each for your size, 6 day delivery (bushings seperate)
If you can get them to send you a catalog you will be amazed at the infinite number of machine components you can get for low cost.

Looks as if you have good leads to what your chasing. Was busy as a one armed paper hanger today and didn't have time / think to look for a supplier for you. Either way, shout if you have no luck.
