I am looking for suggestions for sewing machine/hobby cabinet designs...aka
as how to put 10 pounds of stuff in a 5 pound box. ;<)

Here is a example of what I am looking for.

Links and especially PICTURES would be helpful.

Also what other metalworking/woodworking/watchmaking/hobby boards would you suggest for posting this
request?

Thanks

are you planning to work at this cabinet, like a sewing machine cabinet or watchmaker's cabinet, or is it just for storage?
and i also don't see a photo. :)

well, a watchmakers bench is one of the nicest designs i have seen for a small work area and lots of storage. they are set higher so you need a stool to sit on, but the extra 12" of height means you have an extra 12" of drawers. you can also get the stack of drawers that sit on top of the bench for even more storage space. the downside is that they aren't made to be working on 200# projects. here are some examples.

i have worked at some of them, and the designs are pretty straight forward. the drawers are simple wooden boxes (normal finger joints) and the drawers just slide into a wood frame. no drawer slides or anything. if you kept the area relatively neat and tidy, they wouldn't be out of place in the corner of a living room or office.

On my industrial machine, stored in a dusty environment. I made two S-shaped sheetmetal brackets and slide a tupperware snap top lid square container into them, it does not hit my knees and is out of the way of the industrial clutch type motor. I store the oil, bobbins and other small things in it.

Someone who would make a cabinet that could expand, outward with arms and "stretched tight" canvas to sew large items like blankets and tarps.. then collapse into a much smaller unit??? well now.. get on that project please.. SPACE is a premium around here.. I do way too many kinds of things.

I find it hard to wrestle with large bulky items on my table, so I built another table.. but.. as with most HSM'ers.. that table is now rounded with projects.
IF a man could produce a "table with blower" to ease turning and sewing?? Akin to a old hockey table??
