Hi, im planing on building a small pneumatic piston motor for a water mixer, and was considering making it out of UHMW, mainly for some fun and experiance with the material.

And I was wondering just how likey is a UHMW piston to surive a long time unlubed in a UHMW cylinder if speeds are not excessive?
Or maybe I should do something like a stainless steel or aluminum block and a UHMW piston that gets replaced?

How big a piston are we talking?

If it were me I would make a UHMW block and use Stainless sleeves for the cylinders.

I built a piston pump with a 2" piston diameter, used 2-1/8" OD stainless tube and honed it with a bottle brush hone.

There is also availble chromed ID aluminum tubing to be had.

probley just like a 1" piston with an inch or two stroke.. 200~500rpms maybe.
