View Full Version : When your steady wont close enough...

Turning a long (200mm) 8mm shaft, then needed to tap the end M5.
So the thread was concentric with the shaft (only 1.5mm either side to play with) I didnt want to reset the shaft, so out with the steady so I could access the end.
Then I discovered that the steady wont close down that far, so heres my quick solution:

good solution. One thing on the monarch i dont care for is the steadies, crap imo compared to my standard modern ones.....but they probably sold each steady new for as much as my whole standard modern lathe lol
