Not really on topic but I'm sure people here will have an idea. I saw the photo's below on another web site, can't remember any longer where. Anyway the owne mentioned that his vault door had a backing in it that allowed him to attache these hangers with screws.

I really like the idea but the inside of my door is lined with a thin piece of sheet steel, maybe 18-20 gauge. Any ideas what I could add or replace that with; ideally it would not be flammable, would accept wood screws and be relatively light.
Thanks in advance.

Plexiglass or sheet rock. Why not flamable the rest of the interior is wood.

Hadn't thought about the shelves and such. I don't think sheetrock will hold the screws.
Maybe I'll just use plywood, the shelves are particle board; nothing burns better than that.
I have a few sheets of plywood already.

These hold real well in sheet rock,

My only concern would be clearance for the tang depth.
I would use plywood though.

If there is clearance inside the door, you could use nutserts and machine screws. They go in like pop rivets and should support the weight fine.

First make sure you have room between door and interior. Place small board on shelf extending into door area. Close door, open and check board for clearance.
Next check door hinges to see if they can handle additional load.
The plate on the door back can be replaced with a thicker plate, steel or aluminum or use large nuts behind each bolt. Before you do make sure what that anything added to door does not interfere with the locking mechanism.
Take the back plate off and lay on bench to do the layout drilling and bolting hangers to plate. One caution if the door is swung and quickly stopped make hangers good enough to keep everything on door. Don’t ask how I know!

Thanks to all. Bob, I'll be careful about the hangers. I'll post pics if I ever get it done.
