Latest projects / what are you up to?

Sometimes one just needs to do something, anything, to get himself going after a long holiday.

I decided that I was tired of searching for every little nut and bolt that I need for a project. So I broke down and finished the dividers in a set of old index card drawers that I have.

Cutting the sides off of 1 quart oil containers and re-using baby formula containers has provided me with a nice sorting method for the drawers.

Also, an old tossed out single jack stand has turned into an adjustable material support for my saw. This is something that i have been beating myself for not making sooner.

I welded a piece of angle to a sleeve that fits over the all thread. One direction is good for round, turn it 90؛ and it is good for flats.

So what have all of you been up to? Lets see some projects, big and small.

I made a shuttle for my little crappy loom. It was all I could do, seeing as I was running at a 20,000 calorie surplus from the holidays.

that vice with the bolts instead of jaws, is that for grabbing round or odd shaped parts?

its a neat idea either way,

Rebuilding a big baldor grinder that has been taking up space on my floor for a while. Pressed the bearings off yesterday, I'll try to post some pics later today.

I'm registering for another quarter of welding/fabrication/machining at the local (one-mile walk) tech college.

It'll cost me $82. That covers use of all the machinery and equipment, all the consumables, and most materials, so it's probably a good deal.

The school's only open four days a week, but what can you expect for $82 a quarter?
Any products mentioned in my posts have been endorsed by their manufacturer.

That is just how atlas did it for the milling attachment. I have a block of aluminum cut already for jaws. I just have to wait till the carriage, saddle, etc are back together so I can mill the grooves for the bolts.

                      Thanks for the compliments guys.

Fooling with engraving on the CNC. No pictures yet, but I learned a lot on my first project.

Did you want to see every wart or problem of your accuracy very easily?

No problem. Just engrave or chamfer every edge on the thing. You'll learn real fast what is square and what is not, LOL!

                        Cheers,

                          Up to this

I just finished making the top gun. It's an AK47. I built this one as a present for my son.
I have test fired it , 60 rounds without a problem, and now need to disassemble, bead blast and parkerize the metal parts. .
You can see parts of it are still in the white.
                          I did refinish the wood.

I bought the bottom gun last month.
It's a 1943 M1 Carbine from WW2. The stock was in very bad shape and I refinished it. I think it looks pretty good for a 67 year old gun.

Here is a higher res picture

I cut it off twice and it's still too short!

Some carts that I made for one of the grain elevators here in Buffalo.
I made two carts, both the same.
They are used to transport ammonia tanks.
Used two 20 foot lengths of 2.5" sq tubing, 1/4" wall.
All joints were beveled, did a root pass with TIG, and finish pass with MIG.
No real reason for the track casters.
I used them before on another project and I liked the quality and price was reasonable.
Steel was USA from Ryerson and casters Albion brand were from McMaster Carr.
