View Full Version : Bridgeport Reciprocating table feed - how to?

My BP has the standard table feed DC motor with electronic speed
control and toggle lever (left/off/right).

It came with a long rod and some stops that fit in the front-mounted
T-slot. Never installed this; looks like it just mechanically flips the
handle (ie table feed) the other way when it hits the t-slot stops.

Again, I've never mounted it, but I imagine thats what it would do.

My question is how useful is this if your table doesn't increment
when the direction changes?

I imagine this is for large facing operations, but without and increment,
you'd be facing the same spot over and over.

Am I missing something?

As far as I know, it's just a feed knock-off, not a feed reversal.

I don't know of any power feeds for B'ports that reverse direction. All that I am aware of stop the travel and the feed lever must be manually moved to the opposite position to reverse the table.

This applies to manual mills of course, not CNC controls.

Thanks guys. When I read that I found it hard to believe but I just did
a quick sketch in my notepad here and I guess you guys are right on the mark
-- theres no way the moving table could kick the switch over center to
flip direction.

Just goes to show how dangerous preconceptions can be.

Thanks again.

It knocks the lever to the mid-position, which is OFF.
You probably have a 6F or 8F power feed.
