There I was sitting at my computer Monday night when my right eye started to bleed internally.

Can't see much except for blood, so I will not be around the board until it gets fixed or removed. Anyone wants to bug me then email me and I will respond as fast as I can.

Thanks guys.

Damn, I was counting your wise "sage" advice on how to handle the pair of black panties I found in my tattoo bus.. I put them in the lost and found. They are too small for my keeper..

Get well soon cousin..

I hope you're having your blood-sugar checked. My uncle lossed an eye over "it".

Good luck Thrud and keep us posted as best you can.

Look after yourself.

10-15-2003, 03:25 AM
Not to make light of your misfortune Thrud,
But it sounds like you're in for a laser welding session. Who better than you to describe the machine & processes to us machinists & wanabees, & to improve on it. Best of luck fella.

Hey Thrud old mate I know you can't read this but hopefully later.
That laser surgury is real cool. My son has had a load of this done on his eyes as he's a diabetic.
It's good how far we have come with this sort of stuff, outpatient status, walk in and walk out 2 hours later after having a laser fired in your eyes.
On one session he had over 300 veins sealed this way.
Good luck anyway mate.

Thrud: I've heard that looking at certain stuff on the computer can make you go blind ... but this blood is something else !

Best wishes and hope you get well soon.

10-15-2003, 09:36 AM
Take care THRUD, last year I went blind in one eye and it scared the hell right out of me, seems a chip of plaque or some such went up the main artery in the neck and went into the eye instead of continuing on up to the brain which would have probably had dire after effects, have regained a lot of the vision back, so hope the same goes for you. We all will definitely miss your wisdom while you are recovering. Keep us posted if you can.

Have hope, my father just had a VERY bad bout of that, a little laser outpatient operation and he's back to annoying everyone around him. I'm sure you'll do just as well.

Hi Dave,
Take good care of yourself and do some relaxing to keep that pressure down. You need to treat yourself like a finely tuned machine. What you are probably seeing is just a little rust. I've seen lots of rusty machines clean up just fine.
Good luck and we're all wishing you a fast recovery.

10-15-2003, 04:55 PM
May God be with you...

10-15-2003, 05:25 PM
Hi Dave:
All your friends on the HSM BBS(myself included) are praying for a quick and complete recovery for your eyesight.

Maybe you can get one of those you-talk-it-types programs. Let us know how things work out.--Mike.

We will miss your "take" things. Don't tell them how to run their machines, it pisses them off.
I'll be waiting to read of your adventures!

Feel for you man. My wife is diabetic, and has avoided this problem all of her life. Not to say you are diabetic, but maybe or not.

My mother in law had this happen - diabetes. Took a while for a surgeon to fix the main problem, but the issue will remain and such a bit, and more. However, she can see well now, and even when she was a bit "lost sighted", she did not hesitate to give me hell.

Get better......Scott.

10-15-2003, 06:53 PM
Thank guys. This condition is called PDR or Progressive Diabetic Retinopathy. Blood vessles grow into the vitreous fluid from the retina and burst from excessive blood pressure. Normally my bp is 100/60 but I have been ill for a while and it is elevated, the hard coughing only makes it worse.

I can read my 22" monitor that sits 12" in front of my face if I run 680x480 res. The first time theis happend the whole right eye was filled with blood, this time it looks similar to the viel nebula - so I have been stargazing of sorts.

I am not looking forward to the laser treatments. I hate the atropene and anesthetic they drop in your eyes - burns like hell. Every time they hit me with the Argon laser it felt like they hit me in the back of head with a baseball bat. Made me puke my guts out when it was done. Had siezures and migraines for a month. I would rather get kicked in the testicles every five minutes for a couple years - that would feel much better. The opthamologist told me I was the first one that ever had that reaction - most people it is a walk in the park - other than that huge glass prism they shove onto your eyeball to "steer" the beam. It did improve my vision, but the prospect of having it done three more times scares the crap out of me. Having the major stroke, the blood clots in the legs & heart, the liver and kidneys shut down and resulting coma, and the heart damage were far more fun. http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//eek.gif http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif

I had to trim down my message because I didn't want to cause the other eye to bleed.
Good luck and take good care.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. I'll pray for you tonight. Get well soon.

10-19-2003, 05:59 PM
Thrud, you're not the only one to have problems with the laser eye surgery. It gave my late grandfather fits as well. Hope that you manage to survive the proceedure and come out of this whole mess just as good as ever.

10-19-2003, 06:13 PM
You have, no doubt, established a new paradigm for injury to the eye. http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net//biggrin.gif

Thank you my brothers all. Your thougts are always appreciated and valued beyond measure to me.

I am getting used to looking past the "Blood Nebula" so I have been getting fewer migraines from it.

I sure as hell had a rough time of it. The Doctor told me I was full of BS when I told her it was killing me. I am not looking forward to the treatments again even though they do improve the vision. I would rather get kicked in the knackers every two minutes for the rest of my life. They still have not taken the retinal angiograms yet for the laser surgery.

10-23-2003, 04:00 AM
Hello Thrud. I was kinda hopeing to meet you in Estevan last weekend, but I guess I understand why you were not there.

Get well soon, the world needs smart guys like you.
