I have a Remington 1187 Police with a FO front sight that has worked loose from the base. Looking for suggestions on how to tighten it up.

Sometimes, dovetails can be tightened up by lightly peening the top of the dovetail to close it up. Another approach is to upset the bottom of the dovetail to raise the surface. This is less likely to be visible if care is taken.

I would upset the material on the bottom of the bead.

Usually I do one or more of three things:
1. Lightly tap down repeatedly on the upper surfaces of the dovetail down into the grove, move the metal into the hole to make it tighter.
2. Turn the sight upside down and put three big center punch dimples it the bottom fairly evenly placed, the raised craters around the marks will effectively make the sight taller and tighter in the grove.
3. Locktight. ( I use clear nail polish ). to help keep it from wanting to move.
You can make a loose one pretty dang tight pretty darn easy.

Thanks for the tips, guys!
I'm going to try the centerpunch upsetting plus Locktite.

Make up a sight pusher, similar to the Williams product that Brownells sells, so that you don't damage either the sight or the ramp by beating it in with a brass punch and hammer.
