Can anyone tell me how to engage the back gear on my 6" Atlas lathe. I know about the lever on the headstock but how do I free up the spindel?

There's a sliding pin in the front gear that locks it to the pulleys. Pull on this pin and the chuck should free-spin. Then engage the back gear lever.

check for a pin in the bull gear. Pull it out of engagement. That is if it is anything like the 10f lathes.
