So.

I wired my bridgeport to accept three OS.. Linux cnc, Mach3, and Turbocnc..

Problems is.. WINDOWS is a virus, anything stuck in the 3 1/2" floppy is corrupted the whole disc to where DOS 3.3 will not read.. All the design software is in XP format.. the 98 drive finally died.

FREEDOS looked like the solution to run Turbocnc.. Motors sound like someone gargling, timing is all f-ked up.. Also incorporated is USB compatibility and other great things. But it don't work.

Having xp computer issues with mach3. THE funky video on the motherboard, thou it worked for years, now I get frequency out of range on the shop monitor.. bring it to the house, eveyrthing is hunky dorie.

Having configuration issues on the new linux cnc. Home is in the wrong direction on z axis.. stood on my head trying to figure out what the heck is going on, their linuxcnc.org site is chatting about cars and other things. No help.

IS there another dos posted on the net for download that works with turbocnc.. no bells and cnc whistles on it, but it runs and runs..

Why not go with plain old MSDOS?

Could you use msdos 5.0 or 6.22? Have some disks for those.

To run Turbocnc, I found an honest copy of MSDOS on the bay, only paid $5 or $10.

As you know, Turbocnc is very hardware dependent. The steppers might run smoothly on one PC and not another, sometimes for no obvious reason.

I haven't tried either of the Linux cnc's, but hope to move in that direction some day.

Currently disc formatted in W-98 SE.. not sure which dos that is, but no usb, no large hard drives.. no..

I got turbocnc back up and running on the same disc without reformatting, or??

Mostly I shoot lots of holes with the cnc.. I got a kmg-clone knife belt grinder I am building the platten for right now. (autocad, then pick hole centers, then write g81 commands) Lazycam, well you pick "selected circles on the right".. it creates the gcode for the drilling operations.. some easier.. still.. with no-import into the cnc OS, I must type it into PW down there. XP corrupts every 3 1/2 I stick in it.

It's been paid back for a long time ago.. running on a prayer, a wing and a dab of chewing gum. Two geckos and one Larken drive.. no more spares..

It's still broke-thirty around here or I'd do something else.

BEST TIMING for the steppers by ear.. Linuxcnc...

NEXT best timing by ear.. Turbocnc

THEN MACH3.. but I never have stripped it of all it's functions as told to..

GOT computers dying here.. I pulled the internet off all but one linux box.. hackers..

well... Linux.. Dox box.. made to run Doom and other old games.. well it runs turbocnc just fine..

Rocking.. download ubuntu 8.06 ver, emc ver 2.30 and made a Iso image to burn to cdrom.. it installs just fine. then upgrade package to include dos box.. a old dos program emulator.. it runs turbocnc.. so two cnc packages on one os.. and it takes the memory stick I love to carry my designs on..
