View Full Version : Anyone ever use a rotab to cut coves on the lathe?

I don't know if this is crazy or not. I need to cut some large radius coves in some 1.75" hex stock. I was thinking that if I could fit a small rotab on in place of my compound I could mount a tool post to it. Anyone ever seen this done? Any reason why it wouldn't work?

I don't see any reason it won't work. The important things are having enough rigidity and getting the tool at the correct height. I'd keep the tool as close to the surface of the rotab as I could, and put any necessary spacers between the base of the rotab and the cross-slide.

Please post pictures if you try it.
