I am after a smaller ER collet chuck for my turret mill...

It has an ISO30 spindle taper and I currently have an ER40 collet chuck for it...

I would like a smaller collet chuck but am not sure on what size to get...I feel ER32 would not make much of a difference so was wondering about ER25 or an ER20...

What do you think??

ER 20's are a bit of an oddball,... I know I've a full set and want a 30int chuck for them.

ER25 collets are a lot easier to find than ER20's............ the collet chucks are also more plentiful and cheaper.

I have and use a lot of ER16 collet chucks. I have a bunch of swiss made BT30 ones I of ebay. They will go up to 3/8" which is good for most milling and drilling I do. past that I have a couple ER20's and 32's. 40 is just too gig for a 30 taper spindle as far as I am concerned.

ER25's are going to do you a lot better than 16's or 20's. Ever seen 16's? They're tiny! 20's are also pretty small. I think the 32's or 25's are a good size for a turret mill. You can find straight shank "extensions" on fleabay for very little money. Just needs another holder and you're good to go, but you'll lose a little daylight going that route. I have them for my turning center.

FYI, ER16's go up to 10mm, or .3937". ER20's take up to 13mm (.5118"), ER25's accept up to 17mm (.6692"), ER32 goes to 22m (.8661").

When buying, I try to always get the Rego Fix product, as they are the very best quality I've found. The accuracy is best, and they're electro-polished and fully deburred.

BTW, ER16's aren't tiny at all. There are two sizes below those, ER11's that go to 7mm (.2756") and ER8's that top out at 5mm (.1968").

We have 16's on our citizen's at school and I think those are tiny since you can only feed .625 stock through the machine. ;)

I have a set of the 32's in my Rockwell (R8) which I rarely push really hard. I'm more than satisfied with them (ETM). I also have a 30 taper spindle on the mill and have considered getting a chuck for that too but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
