Trying to get a hold of some 1" thick 2011-T3 Aluminum and it is starting to look like its not actually produced. Anyone know if that's the case? Checked all the small quantity vendors I know of with no luck... Have only found round and hex stock.

This particular alloy/plate is needed for an ongoing research program, so unfortunately no substitutions will work.

Thanks!

Have you asked Kaiser or Alcoa?

Odd that this was not researched before the research was started.

You are not going to find 2011 in plate form. It was developed specifically for turned products.

1 inch thick by what dimensions, a limited amount was made in Rectangular bar form, and i have a contact at a company here that might be able to find a location for it, if you can give me size and quantity.

Thank you both. Looks like I'm out of luck.

As far as it not being researched before hand... My entire test program is built around test specimens that can be easily machined from round bar. Was hoping to make up a few Compact Tension specimens from plate for comparison.

No big deal though if we can't get the material, just figured I'd ask the experts here before moving on.

Thanks again!

The end result will be 2.5" x 2.5" x 1.0" and will probably make about 6. So 2.5" (or wider) x 1.0" thick about 2 feet long or so would be about right.

Thanks!

In the US you'll likeley only find it in rounds and hex. Should machine well so you could propaply get a foot or two of 3-3.25" dia(calculate the ditance accross the corners to figure the round size and machine into flat. This will keep your grain running in one of the long directions.

No luck here but thanks for the contact.

That sounds like a plan and is what I'll likely end up doing if we decide to go through with it.

Thanks,
