I saw on the news where my local Veteran's Day parade will be tomorrow, so I wrote a new caster at my local TV station explaining the holiday and why it is so important, here is my letter to her:

Hi Heather,
Hope your doing well. I am writing because on the news I saw where the Veteran's Day Celebration in Columbus will be tomorrow, Friday, November 7th. I find this to be distressing, I served this mighty country, as well as many family members and many millions of Americans. Veterans Day was based upon the Armistice that was signed to end the hostilities of World War I, on November 11th.
This day is celebrated in many countries for all those who have given to their respective countries. This day is called Armistice Day in these countries: Belgium, France, French Polynesia, Guadeloupe, New Caledonia, St. Martin, Switzerland. In other countries this day is known as Remembrance Day; Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, French Guiana, Scotland, and the United Kingdoms of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
We, the people of the United States and it's territories and protectorates call this day Veteran's Day. If you have noticed the holiday is the possessive of the word veteran, not the plural as it marked on the calendars these days. The possessive is the proper name of the holiday. At 11 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month, is the moment to honor all of those who have served.
In this time of conflict with a global war on terrorism and many who have heard the call to arms, past, present and future, shouldn't they receive the day that was set aside to honor them?
******************************************
I will hoist a drink to all of those who I have served with and all of those who came before me, and all those who are now serving, from many places and many walks of life Tuesday morning, I hope all of you will join me in this salute.
Jerry
