I found a solution to a problem that I experience on a very regular basis when navigating in this forum. Many times after a long timeout I receive an HTTP error:

Error:
Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.

This is the solution to the problem:

Symptom
--------
Error:
Bad Request
Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.

Reason:
---------
You're speaking plain HTTP to an SSL-enabled server port.

Audience
----------
Host, ISP, or Systems Administrator

Solution
---------
Some of the steps required to resolve this issue need a level of server access that will not be available to most end users. If you are a end user experiencing this problem, you may have to forward this information to your Host, ISP, or Systems Administrator.

This only happens when running suexec on a Linux based system. The cause of this is that the host does not have https in the safe_env_lst.

The host will need to look in the suexec.c for the section called safe_env_lst. Simply add https to these safe environment variables and recompile the file.

Thanks Evan,

Iíll move this along to the IT department. Be patient though, we are not high on the ITís list of priorities.
