    source for brass?

    I need a piece of brass about .25" x 1" x 1/16"

Can anyone think of a hardware store item that I could plunder? Horror Fright and Home Despot don't sell brass as far as I know.

Around here I would be looking at a building recycler's for something like an old window stay.

Check out the door and lock section of the harware store. They often have lots of small brass plates.

Might also stop by a trophy shop. They hav lots like that.

All the ace hardware stores (and true value) have had a section where they have small metal stock. Piano wire, brass rods and plates are all in one section.

        Good luck.

At the end of the project, there is a profound difference between spare parts and left over parts.

SpeedyMetals does not have any flat stock that thin (thinnest is 3/32). They do have sheet stock that is 0.62 in 12 x 12 squares. Maybe a bit more than you need now but I'm sure you will eventually have a use for it.

If you are in the Midwest, then Menards lumber yards often has a nice selection of brass rods, bars, etc. as well as aluminum.

                      Brass

The push plates and kick plates on doors are 1/16" brass, but more and more people are using plated steel, hence a magnet is a good idea

Some hardware stores sell scratch plates, intended for mounting between handle and door, or push plates, generally mounted on swinging doors.

For that size I'd check out the 'hobby' metal displays, they have various shapes of brass, rounds, tubes, angles, flats, sheets etc. on a per pound basis they aren't cheap, but ok if you only need one.

I normally need smaller round stock, so I buy brass drifts from the local HF.

HF is my favorite 'component' shop, I've bought a LOT of things from them just because I needed parts for a project, last was a pair of mechanics creepers because I needed casters, which were $3.00 each, the creepers at $5.99 came with 6 2" casters each

Solid brass hinges are available. I bought a couple for just that reason recently.

Yah I can get it online. I wanted something I could pick up today

Thanks all for the suggestions. Especially about the magnet.

Look through the blank keys. A ford doublecut blank should be close.
