Listed below is the schedule for seminars and events at the CNC Workshop. As can be imagined, matching the needs and wants of the speakers and attendees to the availability of classrooms resulted in a few compromises. Because of this, there will likely be some future tweaking of the schedule, but the majority of it should remain unchanged.

I have left some gaps in the schedule and also have intentionally scheduled Friday somewhat light. Several speakers have mentioned their willingness to do a follow up seminar should there be interest and I wanted to leave some room at the end of the week to allow a rerun of the popular seminars.

There are also a few things that are not scheduled at this point. These include, “Basic Multi-tool Operation in Mach3” and “Reverse Engineering with a CNC Scanner,” both presented by Tormach. Roland Friestad will be on hand to help with the Workshop and will be doing several seminars as well. Brian Barker of Newfangled Solutions (Artsoft and Mach) is planning on giving a few talks as well. Rick Chownyk plans to do a few casting demonstrations (Cheap and Free Casting and Lost Foam Casting), weather permitting.

This list does not include the demonstrations the vendors will be doing throughout the week; there should be plenty to see and do all four days!

From 8-9 each day we will have coffee available and the majority of vendors should be on hand. Lunch will be from 12-2 each day, though some seminars run into this time. Tuesday morning from 9-10 will be an orientation and question and answer session. The seminars and times for the week are:

I have added the dates to the schedule. I also made a slight change on Wednesday. "How Things Move" will be 9-10 and "Machine Manufacture in China" is now at 2-4.

I have one more addition to the list of seminars. Ron Worth, of Flashcut CNC, will be giving a seminar on Friday, June 25 from 10-12. He will discuss his new retrofit kit for converting most bench mill/drills to CNC. He will also cover his new family of CNC controls.

Any chance the presenters could all contribute electronic copies of their presentations and any handouts to some collection point?

There are times in the schedule where I really want to be in two places at the same time. Having access to the handouts for presentations I was not able to attend would be great.

A conference CD with everything on it would be fabulous, and I would pay a small fee to get one, but a download area might be less work for the organizers.

Thanks,

John Jackson

Hello John,

I have been asked this question (or similar) from a few people. At this point, we do not plan on offering any copies, digital or printed, of the seminars. Individual speakers may be willing to do so, but there will not be an organized effort for this year’s event. There are simply too many technical and copyright issues involved for me to take care of before the event. It’s a good idea though and we may be able to get it going for the next year’s Workshop.

I have added a couple more titles to the seminar schedule. These are both on Thursday, the first being, “An Overview of Simple CNC.” This is presented by Jeff Roark of Simple CNC. Jeff will have a table set up at the Workshop on Thursday and Friday.

The second seminar added is, “An Introduction to MachStdMill - the new screen set for Mach3 v3 & v4” presented by David Bagby of Calypso Ventures, Inc. The following is David’s abstract of the seminar:

This session offers a peek at MachStdMill - a new screen set package for Mach3. MachStdMill was developed specifically to support the features of Mach3 v4 and will also be released (with a slightly different feature set) for use with Mach3 V3. Via interactive demonstration, this session will introduce the MachStdMill visual appearance, work flow/functional grouping of screen pages, demonstrate new features supported by the package, and touch on the design principles used by the project.

I have had a few questions about whether Roland Friestad was planning any talks. He will be doing several talks throughout the event; I just haven’t pinned him down to any specific dates and times yet.
