Hello everyone. This is my first post on the forum but I've been lurking around for a long time.
Anyways here is the lathe I'm looking at
I'm wondering if this lathe is worth the money(around $1400) or just a waste? I've tried searching on the web for reviews, but all I can find is reviews for the old 9x20 model.
The lathe comes with a 2 year warranty, which I like.
It seems that it lets you change the speeds without having to open the gear box, but I'm not sure. That would be great.
I plan on putting the lathe on the second floor of my house in an extra room that I'm turning into a small machine shop, so the weight is a major factor when picking out the lathe. I will have a couple of guys help me get it upstairs. The Jet lathe weighs 235 lbs, so it should be doable.
For the money I could get the grizzly 10x22 but it's almost 500 lbs which is far too heavy to put upstairs.
The other possibility is the lathemaster 8x14
The lathe will just be for a hobby, so the size is fine and I don't need any bigger. The only thing I don't like about the 8x14 is that the only way to change the speeds is by switching the gears around through the back.
Any recommendations and opinions are welcomed.
thanks
