I ran across this video and thought I would share it here as an inspiration of what can be accomplished.

I didn't get a chance for much of a visit at NAMES this year and waas not aware he had gotten it running. The engine alone is a beautiful piece of work. The entire model is beyond description.

Just absolutely incredible...I get happy when I am able to do something that is so basic and yet I see something like that and I feel incredibly humble.

Just about the time I build something I'm proud of, something like this comes along................I'll bet ya a couple cold ones, nobody who ever worked at the Dusenberg plant was as good as this guy. Absolutely incredible. Thanks for the link!!

I wish physics would scale down, too bad these amazing scale engines have to sound so much different

I'm glad he got his problems worked out. with it running or not it still is another amazing piece of his work!

The transmission exploded view. Louis apologized for using brass for the case. Following is his description;

"A T-72 Warner transmission in 1/6 scale. Designing such an assembly is a good example of nature not being very scalable. Dividing full size bearings by 6 doesn't agree with any listing of miniature bearings, therefore bores and shaft diameters are changed as necessary. This cannot be allowed to interfere with the gears kept to 1/6 scale exactly so the centers and ratios are correct. Full size diametrical pitches are multiplied by 6 from which the small gears are calculated. Special cutters had to be made at 60 Dp and 48 Dp along with a shaving tool for the compound set of internal gears used in the second gear position."

Unfortunately sounds are not scalable either, engines and scale steam wistles do not sound the same in scale.

Another problem, and probably the reason propane is being used for fuel is that liquids also do not scale well either. He had been having carburetion problems for a while, the engine has been complete for several years, but did not run succesfully. He felt it was carburetion and the shift to propane seems to have solved that quite well.
