I received my mini mill today. What a beauty. Came in crate FedX dropped on side. I guess they can't understand what the arrows on side mean up. No damage thank goodness. What a bargin paid $359.99 shipping brought it up to $395,but will receive a $10 gift certif in mail. Person I ordered from was a gem . First guy was a little ruff and I asked for his super. I could understand the super. I ordered on Tues got today:Fri. It has the R8 spindle. Instructions for breakin are nil. I downloaded Griz's. They state to run it in all speeds to break it in. It will sure do what ever I need to cut. I must order tool holders for end mills. I have a Chandler Duplex boring head in R8 for it. I need instructions for the head. I used a different type when I worked as a machinist 10 yrs ago. I can't remember the name of it.

Thanks for the website to Chandler boring head. I'll copy and file for future uses which I'm sure I'll have. I have to tram the head on mill it looks to be out about .040. Plus I want to break it in like the instructions given by Grizzly.
Thanks again Boot

Here is a detailed, with pictures, prep guide for an X3 mill. I don't know how close this one is to yours but it might, at least, give you a few ideas.

I would never get it back together if I did all that. It does tell to run mill in low and high for ten minutes on low, medium and high. Which Grizzly recomends, but HF fails to have said to do it in it's instruction manual. I just got finished running it in this afternoon. I did discover my Chandler Duplex boring head has a MT#4 for spindle with tapped hole for drawbar. How can I use it in my R8 mill?

I just checked HF website the price shows $559 for item 44991 two speed variable bench mill drill. How did you get the mill/drill for so much less?

Thanks, Jim

Very nice instruction guide. Gotta love how much work you have to do to it out of the box.

Mr. Pace or anyone else who can help:
I have signed up for scribd. and paid the monthly fee but I cannot get the catalog you give the link to above to download so I can print it. I am frustrated and confused! Does anyone have advice, or can email me a copy of the manual? I have a model D.
Thanks from a new member

I think the HF mini mill is the X2. but that was sure a good price. Here is a really good manual for it, it's the same mini mill I have. Mini Mill Manual (http://littlemachineshop.com/info/minimillusersguide.pdf)

I have the MT3 spindle version, I have heard lots of complaints about the gears in the head crashing, but I have never had a problem in almost 6 years now

Hello Martin,

Since the booklet is only 12 pages, display each page in turn, right click on it and save the image.

Simple then just to print them out, but if you want to go to the the trouble you could assemble them back into a document with a word processing program then export as a .pdf file.

Cheers

.
